Broue - Version anglaise

Quebec’s taverns have long served as a refuge where men can drink and talk, away from the inhibiting supervision of their better halves. The setting for the hit comedy Brew is such a place. Three actors… a single set… a day in the life of the Chez Willy Tavern. Like a visit to any tavern around the world, Brew is raw and brings to the stage a colourful slice of street life.

In French, the play is titled Broue – the sudsy head of a beer - Broue opened in 1979 in a small backstreet theatre, and played to critical and public acclaim, packed houses and extended runs. From an underground hit it quickly grew into a major theatrical phenomenon selling out all the venues throughout the province. 30 years later, over three millions Quebecers have seen Broue.

The English-language version, Brew, opened in Montreal’s Centaur Theatre in 1982 and has played across Canada to great success – proof that humor and humanity know no boundaries. Everywhere, the audiences were enthralled, the critics raved and the response was overwhelming.

Broue/Brew has broken world records as the longest-running stage play featuring the same cast, and thereby earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2006.
